Rebecca Mørch
Born in Devon in 1964, Rebecca grew up enjoying the wonderful beaches, moors and countryside. She trained and worked as an Occupational Therapist and later a Masseuse. A change of direction led to Rebecca returning to her original love of art. She painted and designed products until finally becoming a full time artist. Her artwork has been reproduced by three British art publishers, into limited edition prints and greetings cards.
Rebecca's diverse and deeply founded styles in various medium, are a reflection of her wide ranging life experience and career path. She is known for her bold florals, contemporary scenery and thought provoking pictures of charicature penguins. Her work shows an intense attraction to shape, form, pattern and colour, along with a powerful interest in energy, spirit, emotion, behaviour and posture.
In recent years, Rebecca has been inspired to write and illustrate on the issues of climate change for children and their adults. The result of this has been a very successful story book called, ‘Who Will Save Us?‘ Following this, Rebecca was asked to create an on-line series called, ‘To Know the Real Answer‘, for ‘Arctic Survey Education‘ – the education programme of the ‘Catlin Arctic Survey'.
Artist's Statement
My art is an integral part of me, for I become the piece I am creating - so that as it evolves, I evolve with it. The first stroke brings a rush of energy flowing through me, all wrapped up in a concoction of excitement, trepidation and anticipation. It is at this point that I know I have started a brand new relationship, to last not only the days, or often many weeks to create the piece – but for a lifetime!
Along with an intense love of and fascination with the flowers, landscapes and figures that inspire my work, I am also captivated by the deliciousness of the colours and textures of the paints, charcoal and pencils themselves. My brushes and pallet knives are another love, each with their own personality. On picking up my favourite tools a whole history melts into my hand, since these tools have been handed down to me by late family members.
In all, my art is my joy, and is set deep within my heart and soul.
